In his early years, Hugo Stuven worked as a production assistant, stage manager or assistant director in film, before making the big leap to directing commercials, music videos or behind-the-scenes reels.
In 2014, he wrote and directed his debut feature film “ANOMALOUS“, a haunting psychological thriller shot in English between New York and Barcelona. The film has received numerous awards in New York, Houston, Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Spain.
His second feature film, “SOLO” (2018), stars Alain Hernandez and Aura Garrido. It chronicles a survival drama based on a true story and shot in its entirety on the island of Fuerteventura. In order to achieve the realism the story required, Hugo took on the challenge of filming it in real locations, without using chroma screens or swimming pools.
“SOLO” had its world Premiere at the 21st Malaga Film Festival. Distributed by FILMAX for commercial theaters, the film has received wide international acclaim following its premiere on NETFLIX.
In October 2020, Hugo premiered “THE CHALLENGE“, the first original documentary series from AMAZON PRIME VIDEO in Spain. A breathtaking historical journey unanimously acclaimed by both critics and audiences. This work has made history, being the first time that the Feroz Awards nominated a series in the category of “best documentary of the year”. It also earned him a nomination for best director at the Iris Awards.
In June 2021 he premiered the documentary film SEVE on AMAZON PRIMER VIDEO, an intimate and personal account of the life of Severiano Ballesteros. In 2022 he premiered the documentary series REAL MADRID, THE WHITE LEGEND and the documentary feature film ÁNGEL NIETO, THE MAN WHO DEFEATED TIME, also for AMAZON PRIME VIDEO.
He is currently in the development stage of his first horror series for Amazon Prime Video, for which he is the creator, screenwriter and director.
Along with his audiovisual career, Hugo Stuven has also published two novels: “EL FARO DE LAS LÁGRIMAS PERDIDAS” (THE LIGHTHOUSE OF LOST TEARS), with which he was a finalist for the Minotauro Award, and “ANOMALOUS“, based on his debut film.
